Brave GRRRRLZ are true to themselves... always

Today was the first day of something totally new for my campers and I... writing as an expression. I use it - often, in fact, but I've never taught a writing course!  Add to that some of these campers are just 6 and writing is a totally new experience for them in life! Luckily, we have an adventurous bunch who were ready to take on the challenge... we decided that some of us are more "in the field" type reporters who like to investigate, research and report back so off they went to develop questions and figure out how to get answers... BRAVE, right??

They discovered that they like being on either side of the equation.

And then letting off a little steam!

Some are the more intense types who get a little "edgy" if you ask them too many questions (I'm telling you, this is DEFINITELY a learning curve for me, too!) Luckily, Miss Sunshine is my own kiddo so she'll very likely forgive me sometime in her 30's!

Others have TONS of great ideas and all the skills to execute those ideas...

All in all day one was a MAJOR success!
Yeah Warrior Mermaid BRAVE GRRRRRLZ!!! Gotta love 'em... time for a nap before I do all of my regularly scheduled activities!

BUT FIRST.... a joke... for anyone who'd like to enter to win a new mixed media collage pack!
ME: Knock, knock...
YOU: Who's there?
ME: Banana
YOU: Banana WHO?
ME: Knock, knock...
YOU: Who's there?
ME: Banana
YOU: Banana WHO? (a little perturbed this time)
ME: Knock, knock...
YOU: Who's there?
ME: Banana
YOU: Banana WHO? (downright annoyed)
ME: Knock, knock...
YOU: Who's there?
ME: ORANGE
YOU: ORANGE WHO?

ORANGE YOU GLAD I DIDN'T SAY BANANA???

HA HA HA... OK, its not that funny, but you can't blame me for using 6 year old jokes after hanging out with them all day, can you???

Leave a comment on my blog post and I'll do a little random number generating to find a winner.
Deadline to enter is April 8th!
Be sure to leave me some way to contact you if you win... either a link to your blog or your email addy!

Now, Let's GET OUR CRAFT ON!!!

  2. getting 6 year olds to write! Yup, sunshine should have it all sorted out by the time she's 30!! I love what you're doing the with girls they will be loving reading what they've written when they get older. My 21 year old just found her 1st - 2nd grade journal and she was totally impressed with herself!!

  7. What a great way to explore creative expression with kids. Kudos to you. Not long ago, I came across some handmade books of poetry that my oldest made when he was about their age. Absolutely priceless.

  8. Being around kids certainly brings back tons of childhood memories, doesn't it? And they're fun to make art with! Love the orange!
