What did you want to be when you grew up?

Lexee and I were playing around today and it reminded me that when I was a little older than she is right now, I announced to all that would listen that when I grew up I would be a belly dancer. HA! What a funny thought... it really makes me giggle to think of it. I love the innocence that just speaks of the freedom that kids sometimes have to dream any dream. ANY DREAM. Anything at all can be your future.

My little one wants to be an "animal saver" when she grows up. She loves to see what my friend Robin is up to... she works in wildlife rescue and has amazing photos and even more amazing stories. Alexia has a deep respect for nature and animals in general. I wonder what she really will be when she grows up... I wonder if she, like Robin, will look back on her childhood love for animals and say... ahhhh there, that is the moment when I knew for certain I would grow up to be an animal saver (though, I imagine she'll have a grown up word for it by then) OR will she go in some other seemingly unrelated direction?

Will Lex, like her mom, wonder how her early interests waxed and waned to bring her to just this moment...

  1. I was going to devote my life to Christianity. I was going to go to Bible college, study music and theology, and be a youth minister/children’s music director. And I mean FOR REAL. By 8 I had a short list of colleges and was already studying piano and very active in the children’s music program at our church.
I think the “take away” on that is I wanted to do something helpful, creative, and meaningful.
And now I threaten people for money. Thanks Julee. Like working in the credit world isn’t depressing ENOUGH right now!!!!! I already quit twice today!

  2. I wanted to be a go-go dancer in the short term and Mary Cassatt or the Duchess of something in England in the long term. Who knew I'd turn out to be a Princess, an artist, and I might even be able to dance again after I finish my physical therapy!

    Happy Valentine's Day, Jul!

  3. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up! At my age, I don't think there's much chance of a breakthrough now!! I love the freedom kids have. I wish we could bottle it and keep it!

  4. Julz--
(I tried to post a comment awhile back and got frustrated at the hoops I jumped through and my post wasn't even published! So I'm trying again....)
Thank you so much for your compliments! I hope Lexee and Lillie both turn out to be women who heal the animals!! You really made my day!! (Lexee especially!)
I'm not growing up and no one can make me, but I am so thrilled to be able to do what I do! I can remember back when I was 6 rescuing caterpillars and horney toads from certain death in the streets....
    Much love!!!
    Robin
