Julee's How To on Altered Dominoes

Ever since I got into the Altered Arts scene (oh yes, it IS a scene :) I've seen a bazillion iterations on altered dominoes. A few years ago I was getting ready for my first ever full blown craft fair and I needed more "STUFF". My work is so small that its tough to take up enough room in a booth all by myself and not have it seem empty-ish and well, I had dominoes and all of the STUFF to alter them on hand.

Shortly thereafter, I shared these techniques with about 50 women at a FREE Make 'N Take and they all LOVED them. Since that time I have hosted swaps, talked people through the process via phone and had this be the #1 all time most popular blog post.

I thought I would share it again as it seems like such a fun tutorial at a time when a lot of people have a lull in creativity. This one is pretty darn easy...

Here's how it goes:
You should be able to click on the HOW TO sheet, save it to your desk top and print it out to use at your leisure! If you have a question let me know... OH! One thing I should have told you was that the Dremel drill bit size that works for me is the 3/64 and they sell it in their little tiny set of drill bits. If you drill deep enough you will be able to easliy apply a 217 1/2 eye screw to use as your findings. If you make something from using this and you'd like to share send me an email julee at heartcollective dot com I will use your picture in my blog!

Have fun!

Now, go get YOUR craft ON!

  7. How do you keep the resin from overflowing onto the sides of the domino?

    1. I'm not using resin, but a clear sealer that I brush on. Have fun! :)

  8. I have a question...do you just cover up the dotted holes on the dominoes or what do you do to cover that portion of them? I love what you have created here and I am now following your blog as well! Hope to hear back soon on your answer :)

    1. Hi Christy~
I work on the blank side, predominantly. The "dots" side I usually paint the same as the background on the front or sides and then I sign them on the back.

Have fun getting your craft on!
