Reliquaries

Last year I was 100% set on learning how to make these tiny treasures. I took the class and was hooked! Recently a friend of mine asked me to share some images of some of the shrines I have been working on. I'm starting with the reliquaries. Reliquaries are the REAL deal when it comes to shrines. They were originally meant to hold relics from influential religious figures... bits of hair or skin were common items to be placed in decorative little boxes.

I chose slightly less traditional items... ahem...things that are a little more like paper and glitter and mica with the occasional stick or moss thrown in!

Have a peek...

Halloween Reliquary

and

Sugar 'N Spice Reliquary

Both reliquaries are filled with little ephemeral items like paper flowers and Dresden paper shapes, but also items from nature really make these come to life.

I hope you enjoy...

  1. Both are very cool. I haven't seen any like these before. What did you use to do them in, is it metal? Great job. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Thanks, Val!
They are mica, paper, copper tape and solder.
I loved doing them! I'm thinking about teaching a class on them soon.
